Artist Vision

Art is life – shaped  by the hands that create it and the eyes that behold it. My paintings seek to awaken forgotten feelings stirred by primitive sense memories – like hieroglyphics on cave walls.  I am that cave dweller, seeking to find meaning in the world around me.

About the Artist

Mel Auberty was born in Dallas in 1954. She received her BFA from SMU in 1979. After graduation, she worked for American Airlines as a graphic designer and photographer. Later, Auberty directed and owned galleries in New York City and Los Angeles. In 1992, she returned to Texas to raise her sons, spending time between Dallas and her family ranch near Glen Rose. The rugged landscape, vast sky, woods, and wildlife inspired her to build a studio on a hill, where she has worked for the past 15 years. Known for her large, expressionistic blue horse paintings, her work is featured in many corporate and private collections throughout the U.S.
