Today, July 15, is National I Love Horses Day — a time to pause and celebrate the love and appreciation we share for horses. While December 13 is recognized as National Day of the Horse, today is specifically about honoring the affection, admiration, and lifelong bonds we form with these remarkable animals, as recognized by the National Day Calendar.

Why This Day Matters

National I Love Horses Day is more than a tribute — it’s an acknowledgment of the deep relationship between humans and horses. For centuries, horses have shaped human history, from transportation and agriculture to sport, recreation, and companionship. Today, they continue to inspire through therapeutic programs, conservation efforts, and in the arts.

Mel Auberty’s Year of the Horse Exhibition

In February 2026, artist Mel Auberty will open Year of the Horse at Gallery One Two Three in the Dallas Design District — a major solo exhibition celebrating 25 years of her artistic exploration of the equine form, movement, and spirit.

The show will feature Auberty’s iconic Blue Horse paintings, along with woodcut prints, sketches, and sculptures, offering visitors a powerful glimpse into her lifelong devotion to horses. Auberty’s work has been widely collected across Texas and the U.S., admired for its emotional resonance and expressive depth.

Art, Advocacy, and Blue Horse Sanctuary

Auberty’s connection to horses is not only artistic — it’s personal and deeply committed. Born in the Year of the Horse, she grew up on horseback and has dedicated her life to both painting and rescuing equines. In 2015, she founded Blue Horse Sanctuary, a 750-acre refuge near Glen Rose, Texas, providing a safe home for senior horses, retired show animals, and donkeys.

100% of the proceeds from Auberty’s equine artworks go directly to supporting the sanctuary’s residents. Her upcoming exhibition is not just an artistic celebration — it’s a call to action, raising awareness about the plight of wild horses and burros in the U.S. and the many organizations working to protect them.
