A Collaboration

The production Flamenco Hollywood—which premiered in New York City and is now being staged in Dallas at the Latino Cultural Center—features a commissioned stage backdrop by Texas artist Mel Auberty. The work takes its visual inspiration from Pablo Picasso’s Guernica (1937), one of the most significant anti-war paintings of the 20th century. By adapting the language of Guernica to a theatrical context, Auberty provides a striking visual environment that underscores the intensity and dramatic vocabulary of flamenco.
