SMU Meadows School of the Arts Honors Alumna Mel Auberty
Dallas, TX — Texas artist Mel Auberty is featured in the SMU Meadows School of the Arts “This Week at Meadows” e-newsletter as part of its ongoing Alumni Spotlight series, with a link to a full interview on the SMU Meadows website highlighting her career as a painter, sculptor, and arts advocate.
Auberty reflects on her formative years at SMU Meadows, where a rigorous, idea-driven curriculum shaped her technical fluency and critical confidence as an artist. After graduating, she began her career in New York City, later operating galleries in New York and Los Angeles before returning to Dallas, where she developed her signature blue horse paintings—expressive works now widely collected by private and corporate patrons.
The spotlight also previews Auberty’s major solo exhibition, Year of the Horse, opening February 17, 2026, at Gallery One Two Three in the Dallas Design District. The exhibition will debut 30 new paintings, bronze sculptures, drawings, and a video installation, culminating 25 years of equine-focused work, with all proceeds benefiting Blue Horse Sanctuary, her nonprofit dedicated to the lifelong care of rescued horses—making every collector a donor.
